On September 9, 2023, the Cottleville Weldon Spring Kiwanis Club hosted their first CWS Kiwanis Club Play Ball Classic. The eighty-five-degree weather was just perfect for baseball. The Kiwanis club was fortunate to have many local sponsors and volunteers to help teach boys and girls how to play baseball.

Boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 14 years old were split up into four age groups and taught about hitting, fielding, pitching, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. There were several volunteer coaches with semi-pro baseball experience as well as experienced volunteer Kiwanis club members. Players were rotated through the various aspects of the game and were taught many skills.
Throughout the day there was background organ music playing like you would hear while attending a baseball game at a stadium. Between the music there were short informational announcements about what Kiwanis do in the community.
Police brought drones for kids to see
St. Charles County First Responders were present to give tours of their vehicles much to the delight of the kids and their families.
Lunch was served at noon and afterwards everyone participated in the Home Run Derby. A Kiwanis member with a micr6phone announced the names of batters as they played.
Trophies and medals were presented at a ceremony and all players waited to see who would win the “Ride to School in the Local Police Swat Vehicle” raffle.
It was a day of excitement, learning, and fun!!!
